RUNNewport launches Newport Sprint Relay - 17.07.25

RUNNewport are pleased to host the inaugural Newport Sprint Relay on Thursday 17th July along Newport Riverfront. 

The one-mile sprint relay race is an exciting and fast-paced event where teams of four runners each complete a mile leg. Spectators can expect thrilling exchanges and high intensity competition as every second counts. 

The Newport Sprint Relay is suitable for runners of all abilities. Please book your teams place as soon as possible, as spaces are limited.

Newport Sprint Relay: 4 x 1 mile relay (on pedestrian path by the Riverside)
Distance: 1 mile per participant, 4 miles in total per team
Cost: £11 per person, £44 per team
Date & Time: Thursday 17 July 2025, 6.30pm
Location: Riverfront, Usk Way, NP20 2BP


CATEGORIES 

Male team (4 male participants)
Female team (4 female participants) 
Mixed team (2 male and 2 female participants)

Minimum age: 18


LOCATION, ROUTES & PARKING

Location & times: The Riverfront, Usk Way, NP20 2BP.
We will meet on the Riverfront path, next to Castle Bingo. 

The relay event will start promptly at 6.30pm, so please arrive early with sufficient time to park and walk to the start. A briefing to all participants will take place at 6.15pm, before participants take their places. 



Relay Route: This is an out and back flat course on the riverfront path. This is a pedestrian path, which is NOT closed off to the public. 

The race will start on the riverfront pathway, underneath George Street bridge. Heading South East on the pathway you will follow the path keeping the River Usk to your left hand side. 

At the half way point there is a mini roundabout on the pathway which you will go round in a clockwise direction. From here, you will run back to the start line and tag your team mate. All 4 participants will complete the mile leg each. 

The 4th (last) runner of the team on returning back to the start location, will run through a finish funnel, where our timers will be located. Please stay in order as you walk through the funnel and you will be handed a numbered card. 

Important - For runners safety and the public, please keep left unless overtaking. This is a public pathway which is not closed off to the public, the same as at Riverfront Parkrun, so please be respectful to others on the path during the race. 


Parking: Limited parking available. Please park in the Kingsway carpark, which is a short walk from the University of South Wales campus and Castle Bingo. Please do not park in the Castle Bingo car park as this is for members only.

RUNNewport Sprint Relay Success - 20.07.25

We hosted our first inaugural Sprint Relay on Thursday 17th July at the Newport Riverfront. The sun shone and so did our runners! The atmosphere was electric, all runners ran fast and hard on the 1 mile course, and the team spirit and support was epic! RUNNewport had 2 teams of runners who brought their fast feet to the relay, with speed and team spirit. We’re really proud of you!
